Second Stonking Stingray test rebuild
Graham Inggs tells us the “second test rebuild of Stonking Stingray was started on October 2”. Most architectures and components have already completed for main, excluding riscv64 and some still running for universe and multiverse repositories. Graham thanks CPC and Launchpad teams for preparing updated ‘buildd’ chroots for this build. We’re given links to see results, and asked to help fix build failures.

DDoS on Canonical and Ubuntu websites
Javier Arregui reports that Canonical websites are under sustained distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), and reports the team is working “diligently to resolve the incident”. A link to the status page is provided, and we are warned some services may be intermittent at times. This post has received an update (via reply) telling us most services are back up, but restoration continues for some affected services.

Valentin then moves to official support for SpacemiT K3 which will come with Ubuntu 26.10, and gives us a link to view the documentation. We’re given some clues on trying these images, and some technical details on how it was achieved and the work done. We’re asked to give it a try, with thanks given to a number of people who helped.

What’s new in security for Ubuntu 26.10?
Ijlal Loutfi reminds us that AI tools are “accelerating vulnerability discovery” and as such patching “faster is essential”. Ubuntu 26.10 will continue the work in prior Ubuntu releases to reduce “code exposed to attack” with us given some details of this, using Myna as an example. This blog outlines the changes made in Ubuntu 26.10 regarding security in some detail, starting with the Secure Boot path, TPM-backed encryption, and more. This is a detailed post, with many links provided should we need more. Along with a reminder of the interim releases in an LTS cycle, we’re asked to test Ubuntu 26.10 with our workloads, and report what we find, as reports will help influence development of Ubuntu 28.04 LTS.
